Øhavsladen — where we are now
An overview of the project's status, our plans for the coming year, and how you can follow along.
Øhavsladen is taking shape. The old barn at Skårupørevej 49 has been assessed and found beyond repair. The roof contains asbestos, the structural timbers are rotten, and the north facade is on the verge of collapse. The building cannot be saved — but its footprint can live on.
We are replacing the barn with a new hand-built timber frame structure on the same footprint and in the same dimensions. The timber was purchased in February 2025 — winter-cut logs, selected according to traditional practice, now air-drying in Latvia.
Our collaboration with The Northmen is in place. Architectural drawings are completed. Svendborg Municipality has approved maintenance work. Mayor Bo Hansen and Museum Sydfyn support the project.
