Help raise the barn

Øhavsladen is seeking foundations and partners for the project's next phases. It is a small project with a large footprint: heritage kept alive, skills passed on, and a new experience on the routes through the South Funen Archipelago.

Why the project fits

Experience economy

A visible, authentic stop by the Archipelago Trail and the Baltic Sea Cycle Route N8, in the middle of the UNESCO Global Geopark South Funen Archipelago.

Living cultural heritage

Traditional timber framing practiced and shared, not just preserved. In collaboration with Museum Sydfyn.

Learning and young hands

Courses, room for apprentices, and knowledge shared across generations and borders.

Rural development

Activity, visitors, and settlement in the countryside. Tom Schotman and his family have already moved to Denmark for the craft.

Sustainable building

Wood, craft, and longevity over fast materials. A building made to stand for a hundred years.

Backing

Øhavsladen has received formal support from key local institutions.

Svendborg Municipality

Mayor Bo Hansen has expressed the municipality's full support for the project's purpose and vision on behalf of Svendborg Municipality. The municipality highlights the project's contribution to the preservation of traditional craft, opportunities for apprentices and young craftspeople, and its value for local tourism and business.

Museum Sydfyn

Museum Sydfyn, a state-recognised cultural history museum, supports the project and contributes historical advisory, cultural-historical context, and dialogue on public programming such as lectures, guided tours, and exhibitions.

What we are seeking funding for

The drawings are done, the timber is bought and drying, and the municipality has approved the first works. Foundation funding goes to the coming phases:

  1. 1.Cutting and raising the timber frame
  2. 2.Roof and building envelope, so the barn can be used year round
  3. 3.Fitting out the workshop, teaching space, and visitor facilities

For foundations and partners

Would you like to see project material, budgets, or drawings, or visit the site? Write or call. We are happy to show you around.

Follow the build

Hear about it when the timber goes up, when there are open days, and when something big happens.
